John Steven Furin

John Steven Furin, 70, of Hibbing, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013, in Duluth.

John was born April 16, 1942, in Hibbing to John and Jeanne Furin. He attended the Hibbing High School where he played varsity hockey and graduated in 1961. John then worked in the meat cutting industry for more than 30 years. John was an avid hunter, skier, motorcyclist, fisherman, snowmobile racer and golfer. He set a world speed record on a snowmobile in 1982. He also holds the record for the highest number of recorded rounds of golf in a single season.

John is survived by children: Gregory Furin of Hibbing, Geoffrey (Carrie) Furin of Indianapolis, Jeannie (Craig) Seppala of Centerville, Minn. and Geary Furin of Park City, Utah; siblings, Barbara (René) Pelletier of Osceola, Wis. and David (Virginia) Furin of Hibbing; six grandchildren; Julianne Seppala, Jennifer Seppala, Madison Furin, Mercedes Furin, Wesley Furin and Clara Furin; three nieces; and two nephews. John also leaves his longtime companion, Alice Greski, her daughter, Debbie Ray and her children, Cody and Autum Ray.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the Dougherty Funeral Home in Hibbing.

Visitation: Will be held from 10 a.m. until the service in the funeral home.

Burial: Will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
