April 26  Memory book to be published for 50th reunion

The Reunion Committee sincerely hopes that everyone in the class can attend what we think will be the biggest and best reunion held thus far. Please consider coming back for a “Blast to the Past”, and re-newing old and making new friendships.  Bring your spouse to show them Hibbing.

And, if you really CAN’T come, please look at the information on the registration form and respond to the questions so that we can have the Memory book up-to-date.

If you want a copy of the Memory book  after the reunion, include a check for $l0.00 made out to Class of 61.  Postage is included. Mail to Barb or Rita Klaysmat.   Included will be a free CD "61 Hot Hits from the Class of 61".

May 3  List of 1961 classmates attending their 50th reunion

If you go to the class list on the www.hibbinghigh.com website, you will find the email addresses for many of our classmates.  If you have a classmate who isn’t coming, send them a note and encourage them. 

We really want this to be a grand “50 Year Celebration.  If you have no family or friends living here yet, remember we are getting special rates at the Park Hotel (the old "Kahler"), and also hold a block of rooms at the Chisholm Inn.  Be sure to check the AAA rates also!!  Book early so you are guaranteed a place to stay. 

Believe it or not, Hibbing is still a very inexpensive place to visit, so plan now and join the fun for a “Blast to the Past”!   

May 10  We are looking for memorabilia to display at the reunion.

If you have any old or “new” pictures you would like posted, please send them to Michele (Laurienzo) Drlaca as soon as possible, but no later than June 15.  Make a note if you would like the copy returned.  Any thing you would like to share will be acceptable.  Old pictures from high school, prior class reunions, family or friends from Hibbing will be great.  If you have souvenirs from the school days, sports, dance etc., a favorite old book – anything goes (I think)!!  Please make note of name, event etc., on the back.

May 17  Sh-Boom will be the band for Saturday Night's Dinner & Dance.

Note that we changed bands hoping to reach a broader audience, and entertain those of you who aren’t into Rock n roll.  Sh-Booom is fun to listen and watch even if you are not into dancing.  Who said that?  No one like that from the class of “61”!!  We might have a dance contest or two!!!  You will be destined to forget what year it is and dance the night away……

There will also be surprise drawings throughout  the evening  with a Grand prize at the end…..well almost the end.  Sh-Boom will play  from 8:00 Pm to Midnight with 3 short breaks while we do the drawings and have more fun at our “Blast to the Past” reunion.     

Coffee and dessert will be served towards the end of the night.  Check the Who’s Coming List!! 

May 24 (Optional- School Tour)

The tour of the Hibbing High School is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at 11 am.  It will be conducted by Dan Bergan – remember him? Class of 64? (Spouse, Terry Ziegler, class of 64). Also available from Dan is an historic video (55 minutes) of the school’s history.  You can order this video prior to the reunion at a discounted rate of $20.00, and it can be picked up the night of the reunion from Dan at the registration desk.  If you wait to purchase it the first night of the reunion, (Friday, July 15 at the Park Hotel) the price will be $25.00.  They will also be on sale Saturday morning at the school for $25.00.  If you want to save and  order ahead, mail check for $20.00 to:

May 31  Reunion Souvenir T-Shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and mugs.

Souvenir T-Shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies and mugs can be ordered prior to the reunion and they will be mailed to you.  (See forms with registration materials) If you want to actually see them before purchasing, samples will be on display at the reunion registration desk, and you can order them at that time (or for several  weeks after).  If you live locally, you can save the postage and pick them up from the Odd Shop in Hibbing.  They are Navy and White , a nice quality, so consider this purchase for yourself if you are a Hibbing graduate.  You’d be surprised how noticed you will be when you are out of state – and then, if you tack Bob Dylan’s name on the back, you will probably get mobbed – yes, he has a big group of followers!!

June 6 Shifter's Car Club collector car display to be held on Howard Street, Saturday 4 - 6 pm.

The Shifters Car Club members (and anyone who wants to bring their collector car) will display vintage/old cars on Howard Street between  2nd & 4th Avenue from 4 - 6 pm Saturday, July 16, 2011.   Stop by and visit with all the antique car owners (the cars are antiques, the owners may not be) before registering for the Saturday night "Blast to the Past" upstairs of the old Montgomery Wards building at the Elks Club - 3rd Avenue and Howard Street.  The Reunion Registration/Social Hour begins at 5:00 pm,  Dinner is at 6:30 pm,  Dancing with the band Sh-boom at 8:00 pm. Be there or be square!

June 14 Join us for a Post Party Let Down Lunch at Bimbo's Octagon on Side Lake - Sunday 3 PM

Optional Post Party Let Down Lunch for those of you who just want to keep on going (and we know who you are). There will be an informal, very casual get-together at Bimbo’s Octagon on Side Lake on Sunday, July 17th at 3pm (Dutch Treat). It’s a wind-down event for anyone who has trouble coming off their weekend high.  Bimbo’s is a full service restaurant, but best known all over Minnesota for the Best Chicken Wings and PIZZA……..OK, they are in contention with Sammy’s for the best PIZZA.
Hope everyone can join in – we will have a private area/room reserved for the Class of '61, (or maybe we'll just take over the entire restaurant for the afternoon!).

June 28 There is still time to pre-register for your 50th Reunion "Blast to the Past".

It’s Not too Late to Register!!!   If you have NOT registered for the reunion yet, you can still do so. Please call or email Rita (Maras) Klaysmat at  218-263-7805 or email klaysmatr@yahoo.com on or before July 10 to make your reservations for Friday, Saturday or both nights. 

Mail a check  per person for 1 night ($32.50) or two nights ($65.00) made out to the Class of 61 immediately to:
