Eugene Skalski


(August 19, 1941 — August 2, 2011)

Eugene Skalski, 69, lifelong resident of Hibbing, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1941, to Andrew and Magdalena Skalski in Hibbing. He attended the Assumption School and later graduated from the Hibbing High School. Eugene served his country in the United States Army. He later was employed as a lab technician for the Hanna Mining Company, retiring in 2005 after working there for over 30 years. His pastimes included hunting, fishing and gambling.

He is survived by his three sons: James Skalski of Hibbing, Jeffrey Skalski of Peoria, Ariz., and Gregory Skalski of Chisholm; two brothers, Walter Skalsky of Silver Bay, Minn., and John Skalsky of Iron; and two grandchildren, Brandy and Ella Skalski. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen (Mattson) Skalski in 2005; and four sisters.

Funeral: Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing. The Rev. Jim Griffiths will officiate.

Visitation: Will be held for one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial: Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing.
