A 1961 graduate of Hibbing High School, David was a proud Air Force veteran who served two tours of duty in Vietnam. David loved woodworking, reading and attending his grandchildren’s sports, dancing and acting activities. He was an expert at fixing everything and anything — from airplanes to cars to kitchen sinks. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration Hospital for their skilled care of David during his last few years. He is survived by wife, Judie Popovich Lyman; stepsons, Shawn (Cathy) Wendlandt and Todd (Brenda) Wendlandt; grandsons, Carter and Brady; granddaughters: Alaina, Natalia and Cecelia; great-granddaughter, Laila; and sister, Martha Niemi. David was preceded in death by brother, Roderick; sister, Nancy; and his parents. Funeral: Graveside services will be held at 9:35 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Fort Snelling Assembly 6 National Cemetery in Minneapolis. |

David Conrad Lyman, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, in Bellingham, Wash., with his sister by his side. He was born in Detroit, Mich., on April 11, 1943, to Roderick and Jessie Wolf Lyman. David graduated from Hibbing High School in 1961. David was a pneumatic mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and served two tours of duty in Vietnam repairing C-130s. David lived in and visited many places, including Minnesota, Ohio, Washington State, South Carolina and Germany. David loved working on cars, building furniture and attending Hibbing High School class reunions with his brother and sister. The family would like to thank the palliative care staff at St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham, Wash., for their compassionate care during David’s last days. He is survived by his sister, Martha Lyman Niemi; brother-in-law, Ron Niemi; sister-in-law, Elayne Lyman; half-sisters, Linda Lyman and Kathleen Cartwright Murray; many nieces and nephews; and his wife, Judie Popovich Lyman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Lyman Peterson; and his brother, Rod Lyman, just two weeks prior to David’s passing. Funeral: David will be interred with military honors on a date to be determined at Ft. Snelling in St. Paul.
