Robert D. "Bob" Scott, 67, Wausau, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, while pursuing one of his favorite passions -- pheasant hunting in North Dakota.
Bob was born Feb. 20, 1943, to the late Margaret (Remington) and Milton Scott of Hibbing, Minn. He graduated from Hibbing High School in 1961, attended Hibbing Community College for a short time and then enlisted in the Air Force. After his discharge in 1966, he returned to HCC, and then attended the University of Minnesota where he obtained his teaching degree. From 1970 until 1996, Bob taught in the Business Education departments at both Wausau East and Wausau West high schools.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol (nee Tramontin) Scott, Wausau; two daughters, Dianne (Chantelle) Scott, Mansfield, Ohio, and Theresa (Craig) Diekvoss, Rochester, Minn.; one son, Michael (Helen) Scott, Cheyenne, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Allie Scott, Austin, Texas, Caroline Scott, Omaha, Neb., and Annaliesa and Lucas Diekvoss, Rochester.; two sisters, Peggy Scott, St. Cloud, Minn., and Polly (Ron) Maki, Naples, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and his faithful and loving yellow lab, "Duchess." He will be greatly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his favorite black lab, "Duke."
Bob loved hunting and spending time with companions at their "shack" in northern Wisconsin. During the winters, he and Carol traveled to Mexico and Arizona, where he took up the sport of pickleball. Summers were spent at an old family cabin north of Hibbing where family and friends would visit and where Bob loved to chop wood and engage in the many tasks necessary to keep his beloved cabin in good repair. His grandchildren will fondly remember times spent there with grandpa giving them jet ski rides, going fishing, playing tag and hide and seek in the big yard at the lake.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at The Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob's memory to either the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
Note from Carol Scott 11-5-10:
To all who've sent cards + emails: I can't begin to tell you how much it means to have the comfort of your kind words at a time like this. I have read them many times over + I'm sure will do so again in the future. Many of you shared memories of Bob that he had told me about + some were new - all brought smiles along with the tears.
He was so looking forward to seeing all of you at your 50th reunion next summer. I'm sure he will be with you in spirit, laughing + reminiscing about all the good times. Thanks again.
Love,
Carol Scott Nov 5, 2010 carobscott@hotmail.com
Notes from Dennis Johnson: Growing up with Bob since 1st grade, the
obituary was hard to read. My immediate memory flash was Bob laughing.
No matter what we were involved with together, there will always be a
remembrance of him laughing and that big, full mouth smile.
Our school days from 1st thru 12th were in the Hibbing High School building.
In 6th grade we were both on school patrol, feeling important standing on
the corners with our "stop" flags. In junior high, we learned how to socialize
at all the weekend parties. In senior high, we thought we grew up - and went out to tackle the world.
I've tried to gather all of Bob's photos on this web site and display them below.
